Tips For Lip-Sync Reels

‘REEL’ talk - lip-sync reels are my favourite, but sometimes my brain can’t keep up with the words.

I love lip-sync reels and often resort to them when I know it’s time to post another Reel. I love that they are fun and relatable. There is nothing more hilarious on social media than attaching some of your favourite lines from movies, shows or songs to a RELATABLE, REAL LIFE moment. As we know with most social media content, relatability is everything.

Although super great, relatable content, lip-sync reels aren’t the easiest to implement. When I first started making lip-sync reels I’d spend almost double the time making them compared to other reels and static posts. I knew I wanted to implement them into my usual posting routine, but time was of the essence.

It took a lot of practice to narrow it down and I’ve finally found my routine when it comes to lip-sync reels. If you’re interesting in learning more about Instagram reels or even lip-sync reels I suggest checking out my mini course Reel Talk! However, here are my top 5 tips to mastering lip-sync reels to save you from the same time wasting practice routine:

1. Have your script ready! Where possible, have your script somewhere hidden off-camera. This could be on your computer screen, post-it note on walls, etc. or even your phone if you require it as one of your props.

2. Film in another app. I usually film my reels in the Instagram app. However, there are a number of different apps that have been created specifically for video editing! Find an app that has the option to ‘buffer’ before you start to lip-sync aka - before the sound starts, so you have a chance to trim your video to match the sound.

3. One sound at a time. I usually listen to the sound on loop (preparing a bit ahead here) while doing small, repetitive tasks, on a walk or even relaxing in the bath. Memorization is key when it comes to lip-sync reels for obvious reasons. Listening to it on loop a few times helps you really ‘get it.’

4. HAVE FUN! As always, it’s my goal for you to have more fun using Instagram. Reels is supposed to be a fun (sometimes literally funny) piece of entertainment for your followers. With this in mind, you should be having fun while making it. If it doesn’t resonate with you, it probably won’t for your followers. Be authentic and enjoy it!
